Annelle Reel McLendon Smith's Obituary
Annelle Smith died peacefully at her home on Tuesday, December 21, at the age of 91. She was born September 29, 1913 in Harrison County. Her parents, William Henry Reel, Jr. and Janie Ethel Prior Reel, were from pioneer families in Harrison and Rusk Counties.
She graduated from Longview High School in 1931 and married James Melton McLendon, December 9 of that year. Melton died in 1949. She was later married for a short time to Wade Hampton Smith.
Annelle worked at Perkins Brothers and Colonial Book Inn before becoming deputy in the Gregg County Clerk?s office of Gregg County. She retired in 1978.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, James Melton McLendon, Jr. and her sister, Lois Marie Reel Huffman.
Surviving her are her daughters and son-in-law, Margie McLendon Lile and Pat McLendon Teague and husband Charlie; seven grandchildren, Kaye Lile Gregory, Karen Lile Parker, Eddie Lile, Pam Corbell Mt. Joy, Larry Teague, Denise McLendon McAlister Bowes and James Kevin McLendon; 14 great grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Monday, December 27, 2004 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home, 1617 Judson Rd. Interment will follow in Memory Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Sunday afternoon from 3-5 PM.
