Ann Hill's Obituary
Ann Doerrie Hill passed away Wednesday July 18, 2018 in Longview, TX.
She was born July 23, 1936 in Moberly, MO to Henry and Berniece Doerrie. Ann was raised in Tulsa, OK and married William C. (John) Hill on August 30, 1957 in Tulsa, OK at Boston Avenue Methodist Church.
Ann graduated from Central High School in Tulsa. She then attended Tulsa University, enrolling as a math major. She joined Delta Gamma Fraternity in 1955.
She began working for Pan American Research Company as a programmer on the IBM 650 in 1956. Ann and John moved to Longview, TX in 1959 when John joined Texas Eastman Company. Ann then went to work for Sears as a payroll clerk. She also kept the books for Toujay’s dress shop. Ultimately, they settled in Kilgore, TX in 1985 to enjoy the country life with their dogs. Over the years they had 5 dogs, one mixed breed, Rooter and 4 labs: Deacon, Casey, Corky and now Tohbi.
Ann then had the time to finish her college education. Ann graduated Cum Laude from The University of Texas at Tyler in 1994 with a degree in computer science.
Ann enjoyed bowling for over 50 years where she became a Permanent Member of the Women's International Bowling Congress in 1991. She was inducted into the Longview Women's Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 1996.
She enjoyed traveling throughout Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas visiting with her many friends as John pursued his hobby of competitive skeet. She was an invaluable help to John during his time as Secretary -Treasurer of the Texas Skeet Shooters Association.
Ann was a big fan of The Dallas Mavericks for many years…going to games since the 1980's.
The love, partnership and devotion to her husband of 60 years was apparent to everyone who met them. She loved to laugh and lit up a room with her smile. She will be missed by many.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents.
Ann is survived by her husband, William (John) of Kilgore, TX; brother-in-law, Robert Hill of Addison, TX; nieces Bobbie Nichols and her husband Brent of Louisville, KY; Julie Hill of Corinth, TX; Becky Jenks of Glenpool, OK; Brenda Wilson and her husband Russell of Arlington, TX; Beth Oaks and her husband Mike of Jenks, OK; nephews Curtis Hill and his wife Mona of Tulsa, OK; Jeff Hill of Fort Worth, TX; Danny Hill and his husband Richard Bresette of Queensbury, NY; Charles Hill Jr. of Tulsa, OK; grand-nieces and grand-nephews Samantha Looschen of Georgetown, TX; Brock Nichols and Breanne Nichols of Louisville, KY; Melissa Jenks of Glenpool, OK; Kaitlyn Wilson and Michael Wilson of Arlington, TX; Tyler Oaks and Rachel Oaks of Jenks, OK.
A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 2 p.m. with Dr. Keith Kelly officiating. Inurnment will be at Rosewood Park Cemetery Serenity Garden in Longview, TX. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
