Ann Graham's Obituary
Ann A. Graham, 92, moved to her new life in Heaven on Monday May 6, 2019. There will be a Memorial service celebrating her new life on Tuesday May 14, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Rosewood Park Cemetery in the Mausoleum.
Violet Ann Angerman was born February 3, 1927 in Oklahoma City. Proceeded in death by her husband of 68 years, Talford W. Graham, her parents Violet Maranda Western Angerman and Robert Denzle Angerman, daughter Linda Ann Graham Stuart with her daughter Amy Ann Stuart.
Ann graduated from The University of Oklahoma in 1948 and in 1950 with a master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling. Ann enjoyed the Chi Omega sorority where she was the president of the OU chapter. She married Talford Graham in 1950 in Oklahoma City. Lived in Kingsport TN for 2 years before moving to Longview in 1951. Ann was the president of the Ladies Downtown Lions Club. She participated in the Junior League and with Sara Whitehurst started the Chi Omega Alum Group. She taught Sunday School for 18 years at First Methodist Church and started a young married class that later became the Waddell Class. She was the first President of the Longview Commission on Ageing.
Ann with the help of the Methodist Church Educational Director, Pauline Lacky, created the School For Little Children at the First Methodist Church. She was the Director of the SFLC for several years where she started the Montessori teaching concept. She subsequently started the Honeysuckle Montessori School with a partner. This was one of the first pure Montessori schools in Texas. She received her Montessori teaching credentials from the London International Montessori Association. She operated the private school until 1975 when the school was sold, and the building area became part of Longview Bank and Trust. Ann was the author of Sounds and Symbols which was copyrighted in honor of her daughter Linda Ann who had become a Montessori teacher in Oklahoma. Ann also designed and copyrighted Shapes and Math Books for teachers.
Ann is survived by son James Robert of Albuquerque, New Mexico, son Bill Graham and his wife Amanda and his six children, Adam, Michael, Connor, Katherine, Abby and Chloey. Great grandchildren include Ben, Luke, Molly and Lilly. Her sister was Betty Bob Morehead (deceased) with her daughters Melanie Wolff and Myrna Moritz. Ann’s cousins are Anita Green (deceased), Maurine Strong (deceased), Leland Letts (deceased), Fredricka Smidt (deceased), Marvin Murphy and Colleen Hall. Special friends are Sherry Cobb, Ann Noftsger Flesher, Dick and Jean Webber in Oklahoma City Betty Tribble (deceased) and Faye Swift of Longview.
Memorials may be given to the School For Little Children at the First United Methodist Church.
