Alyce Garrett Obit
Alyce Garrett was born on February 19, 1925 in Broken Arrow, OK to parents William and LG Wilson, and passed away early Tuesday, August 23, 2016 in Longview, TX.
She was preceded in death by her Husband, Major Herbert Garrett, her parents, her brothers; Gene Wilson, Charley Wilson and Pete Wilson. And her sisters; Margaret Wilson and Harriet Courington.
She is survived by her daughter, Alyce Sparks and her husband Steve of Hallsville and their two daughters Kate and Emily. She is also survived by other close family, Larry Courington and wife Donna, Will Courington and wife Kate and their children, Clayton and James. As well as Greg Courington and wife Cindy, Jason Courington and wife Mandy and children, Aubrey and Emory, and Logan White and wife Kathrine. Along with numerous cousins.
Alyce was born and raised in Broken Arrow. She later attended art school in New York before returning to Texas. She married Herbert Garrett in Broken Arrow. While Herbert was in the Air Force they lived various cities and countries around the world, including England and Australia. After her husband’s retirement they returned to Longview to raise their daughter. Alyce was a member of Eastern Star and her main interest was horses and she spent many years enjoying horse shows and fox hunts with her daughter and her horse show “daughters,” Karen Dunn and Margaret Hilton. During her horse show years Alyce was instrumental in forming the “Horse” program in Gregg County 4-H.
Graveside services for Alyce will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at 11 am at Memory Park Cemetery in Longview. There will be a visitation held the night before at Rader Funeral Home between 6 and 8 pm.
