Alton Hendrix's Obituary
Alton Glenn “Curly” Hendrix, 96, died on January 29, 2019 at his home in Hallsville, Texas after a long and wonderful life. His funeral services will be held at Rader Funeral Home, 1617 Judson Rd., Longview, TX. Family will receive visitors on Thursday, January 31, from 6 to 8 p.m. and his memorial service will be held Friday, February 1, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Rader Funeral Home, followed by internment at Langley Cemetery in Beckville, Texas.
Alton Glenn Hendrix was born on March 29, 1922, in Gilmer, Texas to Minnie Lee Garner Hendrix and Thomas Luther Hendrix. He was raised in Gilmer, Texas where he attended school in Diana, Texas, and was the youngest of 11 brothers and sisters. He went on to serve in the Army during World War II and fought in 5 major battles including the Battle of Normandy. He came home to marry the love of his life, Beatrice Brevard Hendrix, on January 19, 1947. They created and shared a beautiful life together for over 58 years. Alton worked 43 years with Southern Gas/ Kansas- Nebraska Gas company before retirement. In retirement he and his family moved to Hallsville, Texas where he lived out his dream of becoming a farmer. Alton was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Hallsville, Texas. He enjoyed his cows and chickens as well as being surrounded by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all of those that adopted him as their ‘Papaw’. He was a wonderful husband, father, Papaw, and friend to many and everyone who loved him will remember his kindness, generosity and ability to always look at life with a positive attitude.
He is preceded in death by his bride of 58 years, Beatrice Brevard Hendrix, his mother, Minnie Lee Garner Hendrix, his father, Thomas Luther Hendrix, and one grandson, Matt Hendrix. Alton’s legacy includes his two sons, Ronnie Hendrix and wife, Paula of Hallsville, and Terry Hendrix and wife, Becky of Hallsville; daughter Lori Whitney and husband, Craig of Hallsville; 10 grandchildren, Ron, Adam and Chance Hendrix, Angie Willett, Alan and Aaron Hendrix, D.J., Dusty, Drew and Daniel Dickard; 26 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers for his service will include his grandsons: Ron, Adam, Chance, Alan, Aaron Hendrix and Dusty, Drew, and Daniel Dickard.
