Alton Gay Duran's Obituary
Funeral services for Mr. Alton Gay Duran, age 83 of Henderson, will be held Saturday January 3, 2009 at 2:00pm in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home in Henderson with the Rev. Richard Stillwell officiating. Burial will follow at Rusk County Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Duran died Thursday January 1, 2009 at Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview.
He was born July 14, 1925 in the Chapman Community in Rusk County. He was a 1942 graduate of Henderson High School, and was a veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Army where he was awarded the Purple Heart. Mr. Duran retired from the Texas Highway Dept., and then went to work for the City of Henderson, where he served as street superintendent until he retired. Alton Gay Duran was the last surviving of 5 children of J.C. and Jessie Duran. He was a loving father & grandfather, and loved drinking coffee with his friends at Hershel's. Mr. Duran was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife JoNell, his parents, brothers, Glenn, Wilton, and Doyle Duran, and sister Cleo Maddox.
He survived by his daughter Elizabeth Duran Anderson of Henderson, son Alton Dan Duran of Oakdale, Ca., grandchildren, Miranda Jo Duran Miller & husband Jeramie of Hotchkiss, Co, Lindsey Michelle Anderson & fiancée Kenneth Mann of Shreveport, great grandson Alton Nicholas Duran Miller of Hotchkiss, Co. Sister-in-laws
Betty Gibson Duran of Kilgore, and Mary Nell Irwin Duran of Henderson, Brother-in-law Gene McDonough of Henderson.
The family will meet friends from 12 noon until service time.
