Alta Lois Aldridge's Obituary
Alta Lois Aldridge went to her heavenly home on May 9, 2023. She was born at home in Judson, Texas in 1932 to Jack and Gladys McKnight. Her entire life she talked about how fortunate she was to have had the childhood she did with her brothers, cousins, aunts and uncles living so close by.
In 1952 she married James L. Aldridge. In their early years of marriage, they lived in Oklahoma, Louisiana, West Texas and South Texas. In 1964 they returned to Longview, Texas where they raised their four children. She was a member of Oakland Heights Baptist Church for many decades. Lois worked at a bank, at Mozelle Johnston Elementary School library, a dress shop, and in the day care at Oakland Heights Baptist Church. But her love was being a homemaker and raising her children. She loved sewing her daughters’ clothes and later making quilts for her great grandchildren. She was a talented baker, especially known for her one-of-a-kind cherished dinner rolls. Lois loved to travel. Later in life she lived in Aiken, SC; Bay City, TX and finally Sweeny, Texas.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, parents and brothers Elwin McKnight, Jesse McKnight and Joe McKnight. She is survived by her children Melanie Collins of Cary, IL, Barbara (Roger) Shalley of Van Vleck, TX, Cynthia (Bob) Weber of Aiken, SC and Jeff (Debby) Aldridge of Salado, TX. She leaves behind ten grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren.
She was a devoted Christian who loved God and looked forward to the day she would meet Jesus.
There will be a graveside service on May 24, 2023, at 10:00 am in the Summerfield Methodist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Summerfield Cemetery Fund at PO Box 226 Judson, TX. 75660 or the Benevolent Fund of the First Baptist Church 2321 Ave F, Bay City, TX 77414.
