Alma McDent
Funeral services for Alma McDent, 92, of Longview will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, August 17, 2009 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview with Dr. Richard Emerson and Dr. Jim Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens. She passed away Thursday, August 13, at her residence in Longview.
Mrs. McDent was born December 3, 1916 in Waco, Texas to O. H. and Della Beaty. She married James McDent on March 14, 1936, and moved to Longview in 1945, when he came home after serving 28 months in the armed forces. She was a member of the First Christian Church and was a member of the Unity Sunday School Class and the Pearl Chappell Study Club.
Mrs. McDent served Meals on Wheels for 14 years, and loved to bake and serve friends in her home. She was city hostess for Merchants Greeter Services for 25 years. During World War II, she drove a fork lift in an ammunition plant near Waco and shipped one thousand pound bombs over seas. She was honored by Longview Bank and Trust as "People in Our Community Who Make a Difference".
She was preceded in death by her husband James.
She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, O. H. and Ruth Beaty of Beaumont; nieces, Mary Lou McRoberts and husband Chuck and Robin Camp and husband Joe of Tyler, Cathy Lieber and husband John and Jennifer Lieber of Hobe Sound, FL, and Johnny Wrather of Albuquerque, NM; and special cousins, Bettie Clark of Scottsdale, AZ and Margie Beach of Waco; and long time special friend and "adopted son" George Bogue and his wife Jonanna and children Kelsey and Keaton.
