Allie B. Herndon's Obituary
Allie B. Herndon, a resident of Longview, since January 1944, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 11, 2010. She was the fourth-born and the only daughter in a family of nine children. She was born March 26, 1918, to Thomas S. and Susan Randolph Hippler in Sabine Parrish, Louisiana. She loved the Lord, her family and friends. The love for her family was proven many times. She took care of her younger brothers and cooked for the family at an early age. Her brothers were mad at Daddy when they married over 70 years ago. They didn't like it because he took their caregiver away.
She formed several lifelong habits-getting up early to get started for the day, making sure we were ready to go to church on Sunday and school during the week. Church was very important to mother. We attended First Assembly of God Church. Mother was involved with the missionary program, quilting and making bandages. The ladies made fried pies to raise money for the mission's pledges. Watching mother work with the ladies planted the desire to work for missions in the hearts of her children. Her son, Bobby and his wife, Linda, a nurse, served in Africa for several years. His brothers and sister had supported their work. We have all succeeded in our different works because mother taught us so much. She was a wonderful mother, a "great cook" and a seamstress. Mother and Daddy worked in the yard. She loved flowers. Daddy would get the flower bed ready for Mother to plant the flowers. Not only did she plant flowers in the yard, she planted so much more in our hearts. Her grandchildren loved her chocolate chip cookies and her biscuits and the individual attention that she gave to each one of her grandchildren. Her grandchildren knew, "What happens at grandmother's, stays at grandmother's." We all will miss Mother, but she is at peace with the Lord. Our family is sad and happy for our Mother. Survivors include her daughter, Eloise Herndon of Longview; three sons and their wives, Bobby and Linda Herndon of Frankston, Billy Don and Nelda Herndon of Longview, and Michael and Patti Herndon of Tulsa, Oklahoma; brother, J. C. Hippler and wife Jewel; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death was her husband, D. M. Herndon; her parents; and seven brothers.
The funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. today, February 13, 2010, at Rosewood Park Mausoleum under the direction of Rader Funeral Home.
