Meltry Whitehurst Rainey
Memorial services for Meltry Whitehurst Rainey, 78, of Longview will be held at 11 AM Monday, April 29, 2002 at Valley View Baptist Church, with the Reverend Kenneth Bowden officiating. She died Thursday, April 25, 2002, in Longview. Mrs. Rainey was born December 7, 1923 in Linden, Texas. A long-time resident of Longview, she was a member of Valley View Baptist Church. She retired in 1982, from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company with 38 years of service. Mrs. Rainey is survived by her husband of 62 years, D. H. Rainey; three daughters and one son-in-law, Beverly Rainey and Jackie Self both of Longview, and Celeste and Andrew Parker of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a sister, Isabell Gentry, a brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Evelyn Whitehurst, three sisters-in-law, Jewel Whitehurst, Opal McBeth, and Audrey Rainey, all of Longview; 4 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. The family will receive visitors from 4 to 6 PM Sunday, at the Rader Funeral Home of Longview. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Valley View Baptist Church or to the Hi-Way 80 Rescue Mission.
