Dr. A.G. Thomas' Obituary
A memorial service for Dr. A.G. Thomas will be Friday, August 26,2016 at 10 am at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Rick Webb officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 pm Thursday, August 25,2016 at Rader Funeral Home, 1617 Judson Road, Longview. Burial will follow at Grace Hill Cemetery.
A.G. was born April 29, 1923 to Victoria and George Thomas and is preceded in death by sister Mary Thomas, son Gilbert George Thomas, brother Sam Thomas and wife Marion, brother Edd Thomas, brother Dr. Tommy Thomas and wife Ann, sister Selma Naifeh and brother in law Mose Naifeh, son in law Bill Hilton.
Dr. Thomas is survived by daughter Gara Vidrine, daughter Gwen Bolton and husband Sherryl Henry Bolton, granddaughter Katie Vidrine, granddaughter Colby Brandesky and husband James. Nieces Margaret Miller and family of Longview, Brenda Lane and family of Longview, Vicky Irwin and family of Plano. Nephews Gary Naifeh and family of Denver, Colorado, Jimmy Thomas and family of Hallsville and Tommy Thomas Jr. and family of Longview.
Those that will share special memories are Peggy Wilkins, Matthew and Cheryl Wilkins, children Luke and Karis Wilkins, Elizabeth Wilkins, Greg and Hester Warren and Phyllis Shaw.
Dr. Thomas graduated from Longview High School and Baylor College of Dentistry. He served with the U.S. Naval Dental Corps before he and his brother Tommy began a successful dental career spanning 45 years prior to his retirement in 1990.
Dr. Thomas was past president of the Longview Kiwanis Club and had 64 years of perfect attendance. He volunteered with the Salvation Army Stew Pot Program, Meals on Wheels, and served as a board member of the Longview Symphony League and East Texas Knife and Fork Club. He traveled to Jerusalem, The West Bank and Gaza Strip with Physicians for Peace on medical-dental missionary trips and to Haiti on a similar mission with the Christian Dental Society. He was a board member of the East Texas Early Childhood Development Center, a Mason with the Longview Masonic Lodge, member of Sharon Temple Shrine, Knights of Pythias Lodge and Domestic Order of the Knights of Khorassan. He was past president of the Ark-La-Tex Dental Congress and is a life member in the American Dental Association. In 2001 Dr. Thomas was named Longview's Man of the Year.
Heartfelt gratitude to Mallory Davis and Pat Thomas for their kind hearts and loving spirit shown in the care of Dr. Thomas. Mallory and Pat brought laughter, devotion and gentle care into the home and the family is forever grateful.
