My name is Kathy (Pospisil). I graduated from Newman Grove High School in 1962. Mr Davis was a fantastic music/ band instructor. He had patience with a farm girl not knowing anything about band or chorus. When I got to college I played in the band thanks to Mr Davis. I wish I had known he lived down here in Texas. I’ve lived in Plano Texas for 27 years. Well, Mr Davis you are home playing instruments and singing with angels.

Dear Alene, Carmela, Mike and families,
we lost the oldest best friend of our family: Paul. Our parents Hanni (93) and Guenther (+) met Alene and Paul in the late 50th. They were looking for Alene‘s Grandpa in a little village in Germany. Finally they found him. But of cause this old guy didn’t speak English. So the teacher (Guenther) translated their conversations. That was the beginning of a special friendship between our families. Yes, it started more than 60 years ago.
First, just letters were sent. Every Christmas we got a parcel with gifts for us kids. Later the internet helped to communicate.
Paul and Alene came many many times to Germany and meeting the Krefts was always on the schedule. Paul loved Germany. The country, the people, the way of living and the food. We ate so many „Schnitzel“ together.
Years ago they celebrated the 50th wedding anniversary of our parents with us, and we sang a song together. Unforgettable was also the last meeting between Paul and Guenthi on Guenthies 90th birthday. Paul held a speech and we all knew that it was the last time these two old friends would see each other. Paul hold the speech in english and no translation was necessary. Tears over tears.
Our visits in Texas were amazing. Paul showed us so many things and let us take part in their way of living. Once we sent our kids by themselves over the big ocean to spent weeks with Alene and Paul. We never had any doubt that Alene and Paul would take care of them being so far away from home for the first time. Our kids loved them of course. They called them American Grandpa and Grandma.
Being with Paul and Alene meant having a good time. Hours for hours we played hand & foot or just talked and talked. Sitting on the porch with a coffee and a tea. He had a wonderful sense of humor, and we made so many jokes. His smile and laughter was special and we were always amazed by his kindness, he was so giving. The way he talked with the kids…….there are so many memories we could continue to share. He is absolutely unforgettable and will have a place in our hearts forever.
I can still hear him saying „Guten Morgen, mein Herr“ when he was entering the kitchen in our house in the morning.
Now we have to realize that Paul is no longer with us. There is a big loss. We believe that he is now in a place with Guenther and these guys will have good talks and fun up there. No more pain and fear.
Alene and Paul: thank you for being our friends! Let us continue the tradition that Paul had started: our house will always be open for the Davis families.

What a beautiful service. We met Paul at Calvary Baptist in Garland, and soon after, he moved away, but we know what a loving and kind man he was. My Dad was in the Army and served in Germany when I was like 4th grade, so we have a special connection to Germany too. We will think of you often, and never eat another Tootsie Roll Pop without thinking of the final salute to this great man. Much love, Kim & Del Newberry

Paul and Alene were such good friends to Don and me. You could not out give him. He was selfless in his caring for others. When we retired, Paul made sure we had something to do by getting us involved in working for companies he was employed by. He was the hardest worker I have ever known, with Alene right by his side. A story that has stuck in my mind about Paul is about the time he came to Dallas from Longview for day surgery on his foot fully intending to drive himself home afterward. When hospital personnel would no allow it, he called a friend to come get him and drive him to his car, and he drove home. We will miss him greatly. Love to Alene and the family. Don and Janelle
Our kids call Paul and Alene their American grandparents. Without them, we would not have come to the States and got settled well. Paul welcomed Patrick into his house when he spent his college years in this foreign land by himself. He was there for us when we came for our honey moon, and drove Patrick all over Dallas for his job interviews. He was there taking us again into his house when we first moved to US with our 1st child. He was there often taking care of dinners for the family while the mom sweated through her MBA at SMU. He was there seeing her graduation and eventually finding a new job in the new world. He was there for us in the ICU when our 2nd child was born with a fatal heart illness. He was there for us with the realtor when we bought our first house and had no clue what to do. He was there for us when Bertha had a difficult 3rd pregnancy. He was there for our kids when they grew up, and actually went to our kids' "Take your grandparents to school day". Countless moments. He will there be there for us, forever in our hearts.
