In Loving Memory of Angel
Angel was a man whose presence could light up a room. With his beautiful smile and infectious happiness, he had a unique gift for lifting the spirits of those around him. No matter how difficult a day I was having or what mood I was in, Angel only needed a few words to turn it around; before I knew it, I would be laughing, having completely forgotten why I was upset in the first place! He had a wonderful sense of humor and a genuine love for animals, always finding joy in the simple things!
While Angel was a bit of a rascal in his youth, he underwent a profound transformation that defined the man he became. When we found out we were expecting our daughter, Madison, everything changed. He was so excited to be a father that he immediately moved us to Tatum to be near his family and began working as an electrician alongside his dad, Pepe. From that moment on, he devoted his life to God and to his family! This maturity was evident in every aspect of his life, even when faced with unfair treatment from others. Throughout our time together, there were moments when he was met with disrespect, but Angel never once responded with a harsh word. I will never forget when he first met my father, who rudely asked if "Angel" was his gang member name. Without missing a beat, Angel simply pulled out his driver’s license and calmly replied, "No, sir, that is the name my mother gave me." It was a testament to his grace, his restraint, and the strength of his character!
He cared deeply for his parents, his brothers and sisters, and our beautiful family! Despite having 12 siblings, he always made it a point to plan and budget ahead to ensure he could buy a Christmas gift for everyone.♥️ While we weren't wealthy, we were rich in laughter and happiness, always cherishing our time together—especially at the many cookouts spent with Tio Chuey, Tia Aleyda, and his cousins, Liliana and her husband Bonifacio, as well as Isaac and his three little ones! He also cherished his downtime, especially when his younger brother, Marcos, would come over; he truly valued that "guy time," whether they were playing video games or just hanging out. He also loved going fishing with his siblings, particularly his sister Lucia. He enjoyed her quiet, kind, and sweet company, even if she always managed to catch more fish than he did!
Angel also had a memorable love for cucumbers. My grandmother had a garden, and whenever she deemed a cucumber "too big for canning,"🥒 she would cast it aside. Angel was always flabbergasted by this! He would insist she give him the cucumbers that were supposedly "too big to be any good." He loved them prepared simply with lemon, salt, and Valentina hot sauce, and he once ate so many in one sitting that he nearly made himself sick!😂
Angel was a hardworking man who took immense pride in providing for us. After years of working as an electrician, he decided to challenge himself and became a certified welder. Landing a position at LeTourneau was a milestone achievement, and while we were all so proud of him, I know he was incredibly proud of himself as well. This work ethic is a hallmark of the Gurrola family—a family that will always find a way to provide for one another.
I will be forever grateful for the kindness of Tio Chuey and Tia Aleyda, who opened their home to me after Angel passed away, supporting me until I could get back on my feet.
What I remember most about Angel is his unwavering dedication to his family. The Gurrola family is beautiful; they accept one another ,unconditionally, honoring each person’s individuality and welcoming everyone home. Growing up, I had never experienced that kind of closeness, and it is a gift I will always treasure. Angel was full of love and life, just like the wonderful family he came from. He will be deeply missed, but the love he shared will remain with us forever. This is a loss that can never be replaced I love you Angel and I can't wait to see you again.
