    William "Billy" Fort

    November 4, 1966 - March 3, 2022

William Mayo “Billy” Fort was born in Longview, Texas to Arthur and Sue Fort on November 4, 1966. Billy grew up here and attended the Pinetree School District to completion. Afterwards he started, ran a successful automotive graphics business, and Attended Kilgore College to become a Paramedic. After becoming certified as a Paramedic, he worked at Laird hospital in Kilgore, Texas until the time the hospital began to shut down and stopped those services. Billy decided to go back to Kilgore College and became a Certified Peace Officer and ran for, and was elected to, Constable of Precinct 2 Gregg County, where he served the next 20 years. And worked Security part time at Hospitality E. R. in Longview. Billy is preceded by his mother Sue Cumby Fort and Father Arthur Lyle Fort Sr. Billy was never married and had no children. He is survived by his older brother Arthur Lyle Fort Jr. and his family as well as many cousins. Billy enjoyed sailing, and both powered and unpowered flight. He was also quite an accomplished amateur astronomer and loved to share this passion with others. Billy had donated several telescopes to schools around the area. And he was working on putting together a small Radio Telescope for his personal use and demonstrations. Billy once said, the office of constable is not a position that will win you very many friends. But Billy would always help someone any way he could. That was the most important part of the job, and he was here to help in any way he could.
