    Richard Laverne Harber

    December 5, 1936 - March 15, 2009

Sunday, March 15th, on the Ides of March, Richard Harber wanted to plant potatoes in his garden. Instead he left this earth to be with our Lord Jesus in the Garden of Life. Richard will feel much at home plating seed in the Lord's Garden. Mr. Harber died at Good Shepherd Medical Center at 12:20 PM from complications associated with COPD. He was surrounded by family and went peacefully. He was born in Harleton, Texas on December 5, 1936 to Vertis and Reese Harber, who preceded him in death. He was well-known as a expert roofer working many years for Hayes-Miller and Curtis-McKinley roofing. Richard was married to Eunice Vivian Lindsay from July 3, 1953 until his death. Born to Richard and Vivian was Sandra Jean Harber, Peggy Laverne Harber Coyne and Marty Alvin Harber. Richard and Vivian suffered the loss of their 3 yr old son, Richard Michael Harber in 1963 to leukemia. Survivors include 3 grandchildren, Jennifer Roberts and Sarah Taylor of Hallsville and Hayley Coyne Pierce of Longview. A daughter in law, Sybil Harber of Hallsville, sisters, Alice Sparks and Jonell Wright of Hallsville and Mary Ann Smith of Tatum and a brother, Leo Harber of Winona. He was preceded in death by brothers Gaylon Harber and Willard Harber of Longview. Richard took much joy in being around his 4 great grandchildren, Ashton Roberts, Dylan Taylor, Evie Roberts and Kenzie Taylor, all of Hallsville. He enjoyed attempts in teaching them the pleasure of growing your own vegetables as he now does in the Garden of Life Services will be 10 AM Wednesday in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home, Longview, with Reverend Kenneth Flanagan officiating. Private interment will follow in Center cemetery. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 to 8 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the East Texas Down Syndrome Group.
