Peggy Grilliette Stewart
May 21, 1939 - July 5, 2021
Peggy Grilliette Stewart was born May 21, 1939 in Shreveport, LA, and she entered Heaven July 5, 2021. She passed away peacefully in her Longview, TX home, surrounded by her family. A memorial service will be held for Peggy on July 8, 2021 at 10:30 AM, in the sanctuary of Oakland Heights Baptist Church – 1600 Judson Rd. Longview, TX. The family will receive friends and guests for the hour prior to the service, beginning at 9:15 AM. Peggy is preceded in death by her grandson, Stewart Linthicum. Peggy is survived by her adoring husband of sixty-four years, David Stewart. Peggy was the wonderfully devoted mother to her four girls: Debbie Slaback (Fred Slaback), Donna Smith (Dale Smith), Susan Linthicum (Kevin Linthicum), and Carrie Snyder (Don Grindle). She was a loving Granny to Jeff Bass, Jason Bass, Jesse Smith, Jon Elia, Juliana Buchanan, Alexis Leatherman, and Rebecca Kilfoyle. Along with numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Peggy was the apple of David’s eye from the very beginning. They met and married young, and David’s love and adoration for Peggy never faltered, she was his queen. As a family, they were able to face the challenges of life due in part to the unquestionable and unfailing love they had for one another. Throughout their sixty-four years of marriage, they have weathered some tough times; but they have always overcome, always together. Peggy always supported David’s projects and ideas, no matter how crazy. Planes, trains, and automobiles? More like helicopters, boats, Model-T’s, and motor homes; they have been through all of life’s journeys together. Peggy and David have truly loved one another their entire marriage, they exemplified what it means to be dedicated, to live with humor, patience, and most of all, love. As the matriarch of such a large family, Peggy led by example in everything she did. She instilled strong values in her girls and grandchildren; she taught them how to love deeply and graciously, and to trust in the Lord. Her life was a living example of Ephesians 4:32 “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.” Peggy was a dedicated mother and grandmother first and foremost. She treasured her time with family and embraced every moment with them. She sewed dresses for her girls when they were young, and continued for her granddaughters, even making matching outfits for their dolls to wear to church with them. Her hands were rarely idle, she was always creating or baking for those she loved most. There is nothing Peggy loved more than to have her whole family together; in remembrance of this, please join our family as we celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, donations be made to Oakland Heights Baptist Church Mission Fund.
