Memorial service for Nancy Rogers Smith, 82, of Longview, will be held at 2 PM Monday, February 1, 2016, at St Andrew Presbyterian Church under the direction of Rader Funeral Home. Burial will be at 1:15 PM Monday at Memory Park Cemetery, Longview. Mrs. Smith died Friday, January 29, 2016. Nancy was born in Austin, Texas on August 4, 1933, the only child of Lawrence and Lois Rogers. She graduated from Longview High School in 1950. She continued her education and received a Bachelor of Arts in Radio Broadcasting from The University of Texas in Austin. She returned to Longview and worked for the Longview Symphony and the YMCA, where she served as a youth coordinator. Many of her youth still have fond memories of their time at the YMCA with Nancy. On February 1, 1956, she married Robert Henry “Bobby” Smith in Longview. Bobby preceded her in death in 2009. They lovingly and actively raised their family in Longview. Nancy enjoyed community service and was passionate about volunteering her time to service organizations. She was active in the Longview Junior League, where she served as president. She served and held leadership roles in a number of other organizations including Zonta Club, Shakespeare Club, The Daughters of the American Revolution and The Magnolia Garden Club. Nancy loved her time working with Meals on Wheels where she served as a driver and driver coordinator for the organization. Mrs. Smith was a member of First Presbyterian Church and Longview’s Church Extension Committee, which organized St Andrew Presbyterian Church. She was an active, faithful member of St. Andrew where she enjoyed singing in the choir, serving as a church elder and in many other capacities. She is survived by a son, Robert Henry “Hank” Smith, Jr. and his wife, Lisa of Longview and a daughter, Susan Smith Floyd, and her husband, Jeff of Marshall, Texas. She was blessed with six grandchildren that she dearly loved, Robert Henry “Trevor” Smith III of Grapevine, Texas; Tyler Wesley Smith and wife, Katherine of Midland, Texas; Blake Cutrer Smith of Dallas, Texas; Haley Smith Finch and husband, Wes of Midland, Texas; Walter Rogers Floyd of Eindhoven, The Netherlands; Laura Floyd Parrish and husband, James of Marshall, Texas. She leaves her legacy for three great-grandchildren, Preston Reaves, Foster Smith and Audrey Smith. Nancy’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend and will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
