    June 12, 1924 - February 16, 2013

    A memorial service for Mattie Mary Lee Boyd "The Rainbow Lady", will be held Saturday February 23, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Danville in Kilgore , TX at 1:00p.m. with Bro. James Latham and Bro. Freeman Pierce officiating. The family will have a private burial at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Henderson under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Henderson. Mrs. Boyd was born in Plain Dealing, La to Hartwell and Thelma Smith on June 12, 1924. She was a business owner that accomplished many things. After retiring, she spent several decades volunteering doing crafts, such as, making crosses, rainbows, hats, angels, bible bookmarks, and too many other items to mention. Mattie gave them to nursing homes, missionaries and many others. To most, she was known as "The Rainbow Lady". Mattie Boyd passed away February 16, 2013 in Tyler , Texas . Mrs. Boyd was preceded in death by her parents, 2 husbands; William Layton Boyd and Henry J. Boyd; one son, William Layton Boyd Jr.; and a sister, Hattie Finch. Survivors include 3 children; Luther Boyd & wife Janice of Grapeland, TX, Lucille Atkinson & husband David of Henderson, TX, and Kimberly Minor & husband Mark of Katy, TX; two sisters, Louise Hendricks of Tampa, FL and Lois Looney of Webster, TX; 2 brothers, John T. Smith & wife Dorothy of Haughton, La and Millard Smith of Carthage, TX; grandchildren, Sherry Boyd, Mike Boyd, Arenda Lawhorn, Calvin Brantley, Annette Winkles, Anita Holmes, Charles Brantley, Carl Atkinson, Carol Atkinson, Breanna Minor, Asher Minor, David Boyd, Llaurie Barnes and Becky Boyd; 37 great grandchildren, 16 great-great grandchildren and many wonderful friends and neighbors. The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice of East Texas in Tyler for the loving care and respect that they gave to Mattie and her family.
