Madelyn Campbell Sweeney Madelyn Campbell Sweeney died peacefully at her home April 10, 2011, surrounded by her loving family. A Rosary will be recited at 6 pm Wednesday, April 13, in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the Rosary. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, April 14, at St Anthony Catholic Church in Longview with Monsignor Xavier Pappu officiating. Entombment will follow in Rosewood Park Mausoleum. Madelyn was born in Monroe, Louisiana July 6, 1918 to L. T. and Katie Campbell, a pioneer East Texas family and founder of L. T. Campbell Trucking Co. She graduated from Longview High School and attended Dodd College and LSU. She was chosen Texas A&M Sweetheart in 1939. She met Art Sweeney, her husband of 65 years, at Barksdale Air Force Base in 1943. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, where she was active in the Catholic Daughters and Altar Society. She was a dedicated Mother and Grandmother, always active in the lives of her children and grandchildren and the organizations they were involved in. Mrs. Sweeney is survived by her daughters, Kathy Scott and Mary Ann Corson and husband Mike; sons, Thomas Sweeney and Pat Sweeney and his wife Sheila; grandchildren, Stephanie Hershberger, Scott Sweeney, G. B. Lawrence and wife Haley, Sunny Sweeney, Robin Scott, Sarah Van Meter and husband Kevin, Robert Sweeney, Kristi Goebel and husband Brad, and Lane Mills; four great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, and family friend Sidney Tucker. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Art Sweeney; infant son, Robert; sisters, Kathryn Wild and Lucille Brown; and brother, L. T. Campbell, Jr. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony Catholic Church, 406 6th St., Longview, TX 75601; the Macular Degeneration Foundation, P.O. Box 531313, Henderson, Nevada, 89053; or to the charity of choice.
