"LINDA CORRINE ETZEL- TEACHER-COACH-FRIEND" peacefully passed away on March 11, 2011 after a long courageous fight with cancer. Memorial services for Linda Etzel, 55, of Longview will be held at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at 2 p.m. with reverend Jonathan Jehorek officiating. Miss Etzel passed away Friday, March 11, 2011 in Longview. Linda was born in Silver Creek, New York and grew up on the shores of Lake Erie in Dunkirk, NY. She graduated from Dunkirk High School in 1973 and decided to become an educator based on her admiration of her high school teachers. She graduated in 1978 from Eastern Kentucky University and moved to Longview, Texas. There she immediately began her 33 year teaching career entirely with L.I.S.D. She furthered her education by obtaining an Elementary Physical Education Certification and a Masters Degree in Education with Mid Management Certification from Stephen F. Austin University. Joy came to Linda through her devotion to her students and the entire staff at Longview High. Linda firmly believed she was blessed in her life and continually would "Pay it forward". Linda guided her students on every aspect of their lives to "Do Their Best" and "Make the Right Choices No Matter what the Cost". She inspired her students to succeed as she taught Health, Physical Education and coached volleyball, basketball, cross country, track, swimming and golf. She especially enjoyed teaching the PALS program. She was an avid supporter of ALL THINGS LOBOS! Linda was pre-deceased by her grandparents; Perce and Cora Morrison, and Virginia Hahn and Lawrence Etzel, Sr. She is survived by her parents Lawrence and Shirley Etzel of Shippenville, PA; brother and sister-in-law Allen and Carol Etzel of Dunkirk, NY; sisters Julie Etzel, Valerie Etzel and Gus of Alameda, CA; Laurie Etzel Woloszyn of Longview; nieces Allison Hamlett, Amy Bennett and Amanda Etzel; nephews Stephen and Peter Woloszyn; her special little pets Maxx and Sugar; Numerous other relatives and her loving friends. Linda was a loving daughter, sister, and auntie who loved her family, friends and students, as we so dearly love her. She enjoyed gardening, music, dancing & traveling. She will live on in our hearts for her contagious laugh and positive outlook on life. Watch over us our Angel!! The family wishes to thank all of Linda's caregivers, especially Dr. Frase & staff, hospice doctors Schottstaedt & Holder, Tonya & her Margaret's House nurses. You will always hold a special place in her heart. The family request that in Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Beacon Hospice at Margaret's House, 5016 Gilmer Road, Longview, Texas 75604.
