Joe B. Gibson passed away on Friday, July 15, 2016 at his home in the Gum Springs community surrounded by his wife and granddaughters, the loves of his life. He was born July 11, 1928 to Grady and Mattie Kate Gibson in Harrison County Texas. He graduated from Hallsville High School and attended Bush Mathis Business School. On July 14, 1945 Joe married Juanita Lee and they have lived for 71 years on Estesville Road, raising a daughter, Marjorie Ellen. He had many varied and successful business ventures. Early in his adult life he owned and operated a Texaco Service Station and later a Phillips Station. Wanting to venture into some new paths, Joe opened Gibson Paving and Excavation. He and partners also owned and operated J & B Warehouse, as well as an interest in oil and gas business. His favorite activities were working at their farm and the James F. Taylor Masonic Lodge No. 169 in Hallsville, where he was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Master Mason as well as a member of Sharon Shriners for over 50 years. He took great joy in watching his cattle and was a member of Santa Gertrudis Breeders International. Joe was active in church his whole life and was a member of Woodland Hills Baptist Church. He served for over 30 years on the Gum Springs Cemetery Association Board. He along with his granddaughter, Lauren, never missed a Hallsville Bobcat football game. He is survived by Juanita Gibson, his wife of 71 years; granddaughters, Lenee Blanton and husband, Jesse of Atlanta, GA, and Lauren Gibson of Longview. Great grandchildren, Lukas and Sophie Blanton. Sister in law, Edith Wilson and husband, D. L. Wilson and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by their daughter, Marjorie Ellen, his mother and father, sister, Nella Jones, and nephew, Denny Jones. Services will be Monday, July 18, 2016 at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home with Ted White and Charles Hunt officiating. Visitation will be Held from 9 to 10 a.m. prior to the service on Monday. Burial will follow at Gum Springs Cemetery.
