    January 21, 1971 - June 9, 2016

Sgt. Jerry Wayne Hancock, Jr., age 45, passed away June 9, 2016. He was born January 21, 1971 in Longview, TX to Kathryn and Jerry Hancock, Sr. Jerry was a graduate of Gilmer High School and attended Sam Houston State University and UT Tyler where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice. He held certifications from the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas and was a special investigator, serving as an instructor for the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. Jerry served his community for 25 years in law enforcement, first in Ore City and then in Longview. He retired from the Longview Police Department at the rank of Sergeant. Among his law enforcement accomplishments, Jerry was a patrol supervisor, training and recruiting sergeant, as well as a supervisor in the department's crisis intervention and negotiations unit. Those left to cherish Jerry’s memory are his parents Kathy and Jerry Hancock Sr., Grandfather T.A. Coffman, daughter Keely, brother Tere, nephews Ridgely and Sawyer as well as numerous extended family and friends. He will be sorely missed by all. Jerry’s beloved wife Sherree, paternal grandparents W.E. and Mary Jane Hancock, and his maternal grandmother Stella ‘Pet’ Coffman all precede him in passing. Funeral services will be today, Tues., June 14, 2016 starting at 10 a.m. at Rader Funeral Home in Longview. Interment will follow services at Rosewood Park.
