    James Marvin Sutton

    May 15, 1923 - June 20, 2021

James Marvin Sutton, age 98, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 19, 2021, in Watkins -Logan- Garrison Texas State Veteran’s Home in Tyler Texas. He was born May 15, 1923, in Longview to Barney and Trannie Jenkins Sutton At the age of 15, James lost his father to pneumonia, and his brother Barney went off to war. With our country being in the midst of the "Great Depression”, he was forced to take odd jobs to help support his mother and sister Imogene. In 1943, with the war simmering, James enlisted in the Navy. His superiors quickly recognized his great mechanical skills and started training him to work on aircrafts. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1946 as an Aviation Machinist's Mate. After the war, he met a wonderful girl named Iona Fay. They were married on June 25, 1950, and later had two sons, Steven Lynn, and Mickey Edward. James held several jobs in the Longview area, Skelly Oil Refinery, Sherwin Williams, PayLess Cashways, Cassidy Jones, Tractor Supply, he finally retired at the age of 95 from True-Value Hardware. James loved God and attended Mobberly Avenue Baptist Church for many years. If his life had a title, it would be " Great Father, Husband, and Citizen, who loved to whistle. He is survived by his son Mickey and wife Teresa, of Longview. James was preceded in death by his wife, Iona Sutton; his parents Barney and Trannie Sutton; brother Barney Sutton; sister Imogene (Sutton) Baker; and son Steve Sutton. The family wishes to thank the caregivers from Watkins Logan Garrison Texas State Veteran’s Home and Traditions Hospice who provided care, support, and their love for James. Visitation will be held Friday, June 25, 2021, as come and go throughout the day. Graveside services will be held at 10 AM Saturday, June 26, 2021, in Grace Hill Cemetery.
