George Ray McCormack

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 14, 2018 for George McCormack at Northwood Baptist Church, 4376 Tryon Road, Longview, TX 75605, with Pastor Ron Peacock presiding. George passed from this life to join his Savior on Sunday, July 9, 2018 after a lengthy illness and battle with Alzheimer’s. Services will be under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview, 1617 Judson Road. He was born in Long Branch, Texas on February 6, 1931, to Randy McCormack and Irene Busby McCormack. He graduated from Mt. Enterprise High School. He enlisted in the Army in 1952 during the Korean War. He served and fought in South Korea where he was wounded, thus awarded a Purple Heart. He later served at the United Nations Command Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, under the leadership of Brigadier General John Eisenhower. He worked at Lone Star Company over 30 years and retired as Assistant Branch Manager. George was preceded in death by his wife Edythe McCarty McCormack, his parents Irene and Randy, his sister Willie Mae Keeling, his brother Jimmie McCormack, his sons-in-law, Joe Mac Keeling and Robert A. Sullivan III, and his granddaughter Shelby Sullivan. Survivors include his children: Vicki Sullivan of Longview, Virginia Keeling of Burleson, Thomas C. Fugate, Sr. and his wife Joan of Helotes; his sister-in-law Melba Dean McCormack of Henderson; brother-in-law Robert Keeling of Ft. Worth; grandchildren Cherie Fugate Johnson and husband Jeff of Tacoma, WA, Chelsea Guthrie of Burleson, Thomas C. Fugate, Jr. and wife Stacey of Cedar Park; great-grandchildren Trey Fugate, Luke Fugate, Jacob Fugate, Jaida Gay and husband Dylan of Burleson, and Joel Ramirez of Denton; great-great granddaughter Lillia Gay; niece Nancy Gibson and husband Mark of Henderson, and Randy McCormack and wife Phyllis of Henderson. Thank you to Compass Hospice of East Texas (Dr Srinivas Rangu, Jennifer Pounds, RN, and Christina Brown, CNA) for their superlative care and support. Heartfelt gratitude to his private caregivers: Beverly Chisnall, Jarrett Chisnall, and Heather McGee. The family request that memorial donations be made to the Northwood Baptist Church.
