    Elizabeth Amanda Ulmer Keller

    September 24, 1933 - December 19, 2020

Elizabeth Ulmer Keller, 87, is now at rest. She passed away December 19, 2020 in her own bed after a long battle with congestive heart failure. Lib impacted generations of people, both on Earth and in Heaven. Her positivity and patience served her well as both a teacher and principal at John Adams Middle School in Metairie, Louisiana. A wise and Godly woman, Lib also taught Sunday School classes at Metairie Baptist Church for children and adults for nearly all her adult life. She grew up in Sumter, South Carolina as an only child of the late Robert and Helen Ulmer. Lib contracted rheumatic fever as a girl, and her mother literally had to carry her to and from school after the illness left her unable to move. However, Lib was a strong-willed youngster. When her mobility finally returned, she defied doctor’s orders and rode her bicycle when she could. Lib attended Winthrop College in Rock Hill, South Carolina as a young woman. She met her husband, the late Harold Keller, Sr., while he was stationed at Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, and the two married in 1953. Lib and Harold Sr. were married for 25 years before he passed away in 1976. Lib spent the last few months of her life surrounded by family in the home of her daughter and son-in-law. She is survived by her daughter, Helen Keller Wallace (August) and her son, Harold Keller, Jr. (Kim); grandchildren Natalie Painter, Elisa Keller and Robert Keller and great grandson Seth Wallace; several nieces and nephews; and beloved caregiver Scheketha “Renee” Wilson. She is preceded in death by her husband Harold, parents Robert Ulmer and Helen Horger Ulmer Wood, stepfather Joseph Wood and stepbrother Bill Wood. Lib will be laid to rest beside her husband. Because of COVID safety and restrictions, the immediate family will hold a private graveside service in Big Cane, Louisiana. In lieu of flowers, her children have asked friends and family to make donations in her name to Metairie Baptist Church, in Metairie Louisana.
