    Eleanor A. Colquitt

    October 27, 1927 - May 6, 2012

Graveside services for Eleanor A. Colquitt, 84, of Longview, will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at the Mausoleum Chapel at Rosewood Park, with the Rev. Michael L. Schutz officiating. Services are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Mrs. Colquitt passed away Sunday afternoon at her home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5 until 7 p.m. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on October 27, 1927, she moved to Dallas, Texas, with her parents when she was six months old. Eleanor graduated from Highland Park High School and went on to earn her college degree from Southern Methodist University in 1947. She was an active member in the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority and was honored to be selected as a member of Mortar Board. Upon completion of college she trained as a medical technologist at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas and worked in that field until her marriage to Dr. L. A. Colquitt in 1950. Having lived in Longview since 1959, she was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and the Thelma Morgan Sunday School Class, a Camp Fire Girls leader, member and president of the Junior Service League, member and officer of the Gregg County Medical Auxiliary, member of the Heritage Bible Club, Shakespeare Club, and Magnolia Garden Club. Studying the French language and playing in two bridge clubs also provided her great pleasure. She also recruited the steering committee which evolved into the first Board of Directors of the Longview Symphony, and thus played an instrumental role in the establishment of Longview's symphony orchestra. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, John Frederick and Edna Adam, her husband, Dr. L. A. Bud Colquitt, and her son-in-law, Chesley Hendrix Farmer, III. She is survived by her three children, Carol Colquitt Farmer of Dallas, Dr. Landon A. Colquitt and his wife Nancy of Kinsgport, Tennessee, and Dr. John A. Colquitt and his wife Jane of Longview; six grandchildren and many friends. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 400 N. Fredonia St., Longview, Texas 75601.
