    Edward James Messenger

    September 24, 1927 - March 10, 2022

Edward James Messenger passed from the world to a Heavenly Place of Eternal Peace on Thursday, March 10, 2022, in Longview. Edward was born to Douglas and Janet Messenger, now deceased, in Akron, Ohio on September 24, 1927. He married his true love, Jeanette, on June 23, 1951 and she preceded him in death in 2012. He leaves behind his son and daughter-in-law Thomas and Cindy Messenger of Findlay, Ohio; three daughters and sons-in-law Deborah and Randell Wiggins of Longview, TX, Rebecca and Sam Spurlock of Olney, TX, Kathleen and Ron Hogue of Sulphur Springs, TX; seven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He retired from Stemco and opened a machine shop for many years. Edward was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Ohio, multiple antique automobile clubs, various genealogical associations, and he was a former Scoutmaster. He was a member of Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Longview. Edward also served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. Edward took great pride in the antique cars he restored which earned many national awards. He loved his family, enjoyed working with family genealogy, traveling overseas and touring with early horseless carriage antique cars. Edward was also a cancer survivor. He had a quiet, yet vibrant personality, a brilliant mind, and he will be greatly missed. There will be a private graveside service at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Cancer Society. The family would like to thank the amazing staff at Christus Good Shepherd who cared for him during his time of need.
