    Daniel R. Schoolfield

    July 2, 1925 - January 6, 2008

    Services for Daniel R. Schoolfield will be held January 9, 2008 at 12:00 p.m. at Rader Funeral Home in Longview, Texas. He went into the loving arms of Jesus on January 6, 2008. Daniel Roberson Schoolfield was bom on July 2, 1925 in Austin, Texas to Oliver Perry Schoolfield, II and Ollie Peterson Schoolfield. He graduated from the University of Texas in 19S0 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He enlisted in the United States Air Force on August 8, 1943. He was in combat in the Korean War with the 49th Fighter Bomber Wing and was "the world's greatest fighter pilot". He served in the Reserves until July 2, 1985, retiring as a Major of the USAF. Serving his country was a great source of pride for him. He went on to build a career as a Stock Broker with Southwest Securities and retired in 1994. He was a devoted Christian and a member of Mulberry Springs Baptist Church in Hallsville, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Merylene Cherico Schoolfield and a daughter, Terri Langston. Daniel R. Schoolfield is survived by his wife of 21 years, Betty Schoolfield of Longview, children Randine Bickel of Colorado, Perry Schoolfield of Dallas and Melissa Schoolfield of Longview; also step-children Bill Cherico of Austin, Cecil Cherico of Dallas and Jackie Cherico of Austin; grandchildren Elizabeth, Samuel and Matthew Bickel of Colorado and Samantha and BreeAnna Langston of Longview along with a host of family and friends who love him and will miss him dearly. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Highway 80 Rescue Mission. The family wishes to express a special thank you to Elizabeth Jackson for her love and devotion in the care of our loved one. They would also like to express gratitude to Doctors Lewis A. Browne and Baher Elhalwagi for being such wonderful physicians and friends to Dan one for these many years.
