Troy Schaap

Troy David Schaap, beloved father, son, brother, and friend passed away far too soon on Sunday, June 23, 2024. Troy was born on January 12, 1966 to Audley and Marianne Schaap in Denver, Colorado. From elementary through high school, Troy attended Denver Christian School. Enjoying all sports alongside his dear childhood friend Ron Anderson, Troy highlighted his time in Colorado as the varsity football team fullback. He was also a track star in the 400 meter relay, breaking Colorado’s high school state record at the time. Off the field and track, Troy could be found skiing down the slopes in Winter Park where his family frequently enjoyed holidays and weekends spending time together. For anyone who met Troy, it didn’t take long to realize he bled green and gold. Troy graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Arts in Business and was an active member in the Sigma Chi fraternity. He also competed on the Baylor cycling team and was occasionally known to take professors of difficult classes on dove hunting trips. He stayed connected with many of his fraternity brothers through annual trips to Broken Bow, Oklahoma. Troy married Whitney Hall on November 9, 1991 in Dallas, Texas where he founded a custom homebuilding company, Scott Builders. The couple then moved to Denver, Colorado where Troy joined Encore Homes, a business of the family. They had their first child, Jackson, in 1995. In the fall of 1997 Troy, Whitney, and Jackson moved back to Dallas, Texas where Troy worked for a homebuilding company and remodeled several homes. On his return to Dallas, Troy began taking the series of exams to acquire his financial advisory certifications. In fall of 1999 Troy accepted a position with Edward Jones in Longview, Texas. Troy and Whitney had their second child, Payton, in the spring of 2001. Troy worked for several brokerage firms and found his permanent firm with RBC Wealth Management. He enjoyed helping families and individuals develop their financial plans and goals. As a handyman who could disassemble and rebuild any part of a house blindfolded, Troy could always be found tinkering in his garage on his latest home improvement project or filling up his car with supplies from Lowe’s. Troy was a father who went every mile to not just raise his kids but to also have fun with them in the process. Known by his kids as a boat driver, hunting partner, and lifting buddy, he was a dad who would try anything, even if it was only once. He was always excited to talk about the Sullivan King concert, a rave that Jackson and Payton brought him to in June of 2022, where he was thrown unsuspectingly into a world of neon lights and electronic music. Troy was thrilled to welcome his son-in-law Paxton Tucker to the family on June 1st of this year. In his father-of-the-bride speech, Troy made it known how excited he was to give his daughter’s hand in marriage. Troy’s grandparents preceded him in death. Along with his children and parents, Troy is survived by his younger siblings Leslie Krommendyk, Shane Schaap, and Valerie Borger. Services will include: Visitation on Friday, July 5th at Longview’s Rader Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00pm Funeral service on Saturday, July 6th at First Baptist Church of Longview, at 11:00am Graveside service on Sunday, July 7th at Dallas’ Restland Cemetery at 10:00am Honorary pallbearers include: Audley Schaap, Shane Schaap, Jeff Krommendyk, Jeff Borger, Jackson Schaap, Paxton Tucker, Jim Tucker, Dominic Tucker, Jim Bob Green, Bret Mason, Lane Alpert, Mike Allen, Curt Hinshaw, Rich Kash, Ralph Zelenock, Ernie Koestner, Kenneth Brown, Kevin Brown, Jeff Fairey, Eric Spinazolla, Carl Vellenga, and Michael Tierney.
