Philip E. Allbright

On June 29, 2012, the world lost a jack-of-all-trades: a loving husband, supportive father, fun grandfather, no-nonsense father-in-law, loyal son, brother, uncle, poker-buddy, neighbor, practical joker, hunter, fisherman, builder, auto-mechanic, antique collector, handy-man, and all around fine person. Philip Eugene Allbright was born on January 31, 1933, in Longview, Texas, to Luella and Harry Lee Allbright, Sr. He graduated from Longview High School in 1950, attended Kilgore Junior College, and served in the Army during the Korean War from 1953 - 1955. He worked at Texas Eastman for almost forty years, and retired in 1994. Philip was a member of Elmira Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church and belonged to the Pythian Lodge and D.O.K.K.E.s. Philip was met in heaven by his mother, Luella Allbright who we are certain greeted him with his favorite pound cake, his father, Harry Allbright, Sr., his younger brother, George Allbright, and his favorite bird dog, Rex. He leaves behind with precious memories his wife of 58 years, Bonnie Allbright, three daughters, Jan Allbright husband Richard Bunn, Joan Togami husband Nobuo Togami, and Jeana Lungwitz husband Kevin Lungwitz, as well as five grandchildren who knew him and loved him as "Poppa": Bryce Bunn, Jordan Togami, Jerick Togami, Erin Lungwitz, and Claire Lungwitz who are all the smartest grandchildren who ever lived, according to Philip. Philip will be remembered for his keen sense of humor, cheerleading at his grandchildren's ballgames, graduations, and music recitals, his practicality, his Tuesday poker games, his smart business sense, his passion for garage sales and bargains, his addiction to good desserts, his respect for the great outdoors, his engineering skills, his knack for creating mischief, his never-met-a-stranger attitude, but most of all, for his unwavering devotion to his family. Special thanks to Dr. Slone, Allison, Dusty, Alison, Shenling, Tori, Spencer, Earl, and the other excellent nurses at Good Shepherd Hospital, as well as Drs. Holder, MacBeth, Syed, and Zarcone, and nurses Angie, Janis, Kelly, Stephanie, Patsy, and the rest of the staff at BeaconHospice at Margaret's House who made the transition from this earthly life to a celestial one as comfortable as possible for Philip and his family. His well-spent life will be celebrated on Monday, July 2, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home, 1617 Judson Road, Longview, TX, with a brief graveside service at Rosewood Park. Visitation for family and friends will occur on Sunday, July 1, 2012, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Rader Funeral Home. Bring your celebratory spirit because Philip requires it.
