Greg Phelps

Gregory Vernon Phelps, loving and deeply loved husband, father, grandfather, greatgrandfather, brother and friend, passed away Thursday evening at the age of 70. This ended his long and courageous struggle with Parkinson's disease and advanced dementia. He had spent the last two years of his life as a resident of Heartis Longview (Fountain View) Greg was born October 25, 1945, in Napa, California, the second of four sons of Hubbard and Harriet Phelps. When a very young child, the family moved to La Jolla, California, then a few years later, Lake Tahoe. Eventually, the family ended up in the Lindale area, Hub's roots, and Greg went on to graduate John Tyler High School, Tyler, in 1963. Greg was a talented musician, song-writer, keyboardist, band member, who played in various venues throughout the United States. Locally, he was best-known as the keyboardist at the legendary Reo Palm Isle, where he met his future wife, Jean. Greg was an entrepreneur, owning an inventory service, as well as a bailbond service. Greg is survived by his wife, Jean Spencer Phelps, A daughter, Holly, two sons, David and Matthew, all of Tyler, a step-daughter and her husband, Lori and Don Cupples, Marshall, three brothers, Dr. Daniel H. Phelps and wife Kay of Tyler, Neil and his wife Rhonda of Conroe, Mark and his wife DiAnn of Houston, an uncle and aunt, Jim and Barbara Anderson of Spokane, WA, Grandchildren, Jessica, Courtney, Max, Bryan, Max & Luke, Brookelyn, Autumn, Emma, and Great-grandchildren, Sadie, Paisley and Macy. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Todd, and his stepdaughter, Brooke.Barber Hall. Visitation will be Sunday, August 14, 6-8 PM at Rader Funeral Home, Longview. A celebration of Greg's life will be held at Rader Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, August 15, at 2 PM, followed by interment in Lindale City Cemetery, Lindale, Texas. The family would like to thank the loving and devoted Carepartners at Heartis Longview, and Heart to Heart Hospice. A special thanks to Tamesha Banton for her loving care of Greg.
