Frank F. Farkas

Funeral services for Frank Farkas, 95, of Longview, will be held in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home, Longview on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 11 a.m. with Pastor David Banks officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, October 26, 2012 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Rader Funeral Home. Mr. Farkas was born to Ferenc and Emelia Farkas on December 12, 1916, in Budapest, Hungary. He was one of four children; an older brother, Be'la, a younger brother Ge'za, and a younger sister, Maria. He was an officer in the Hungarian Mountain Brigade and Ski Battalion. After his escape from Communism in 1956 with only the clothes on his back, he came to the United States and was sponsored by Governor Morrison of Louisiana. He sang for his room and board and his first American dollar at the Court of Two Sisters in New Orleans, Louisiana. He married Patricia Rice on November 12, 1964 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was a civil engineer, and after working for Sun Pipeline Company where he was contracted through John West Engineering in about 1972, he retired in 1987. Together Together, Mr.and Mrs. Farkas owned and operated their antique shop, Pittypat's Porch, in Longview which is still open. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend; and will be dearly missed. He is preceded in death by his parents, along with his beloved mother-in-law, Dorothy Belle Rice, whom he called "Mother" because he always said she was just like a mother to him. Due to the effects of Communism and the lost communication that goes along with it, there is no knowledge of his siblings' survival. He is survived by his wife, Pat Farkas of Longview, daughter and son-in-law, Amelia and Shawn Heatherly of Longview, step son and daughter-in-law Butch Tubbs and Terri Pomerleau of Arlington, grandchildren Kelby LeeAnne and Be'la Free of Longview, Stephen Tubbs of Arlington, and step granddaughter, Lexi Heatherly, as well as other loving friends and family. The family would like to thank Beacon Hospice at Margaret's House for the wonderful, compassionate, and loving care given to Frank and his family. They made such a difference during his last journey in his life, and brought much comfort during our time of need. Contributions may be made to Beacon Hospice at Margaret's House or Trinity United Methodist Church Food Pantry.
