Dorothea C. Hurst There is a bright star in the sky and Heaven has another angel. Dorothea Connelly Hurst left this world on September 29, 2005 and now rests in eternal peace in the arms of our Lord. Dorothea was born on August 15, 1922 in Trenton, Texas to Guy Calvin and Ruth Miller Connelly. She graduated Longview High School where she was a majorette and also attended Kilgore College. In 1941 she married James Leak Hurst, a union that produced two children, Sharon Kimberley Cheri Hurst of Granger, Indiana and James Phillip Hurst of Austin, Texas. Dorothea is also survived by two grandsons, David Connelly Hurst of Frankfort, IL and James Christian Hurst of St. Croix, U. S. Virgin Islands; a brother John A. Connelly of Fairbanks, Alaska; daughter-in-law Amy Sorrels Hurst of Austin, Texas; two great grandsons, Tannor Connelly Hurst and Spencer Charles Hurst of Frankfort, IL; many nieces, nephews and faithful and loving friends. Dorothea was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a brother, Guy C. Connelly, Jr. Dorothea and her husband, James, built Dun Roamin? Ranch Motel in December of 1946 and operated it for more than 40 years. They were also involved in the import and sale of fine antiques. This business afforded them the opportunity to pursue their love of travel throughout much of Europe and the Far East. Dorothea was an active member of the Junior Service League, serving as Treasurer, and instrumental in starting The Bargain Box. She also continued her service when this organization became the Junior League of Longview. Aside from her family and friends, animals were Dorothea?s first love. She saved her beloved, Johnny Reb, an African grey parrot, from being destroyed and found him to be a great companion for more than thirty years. Over the years, many dogs enriched her life; most recent was her Tessa, a Papillon. A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2005 from 2:00 until 5:00 P.M. at the residence of Shirley and John Griffin, 915 Hillcrest Drive in Longview. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Heart?s Way Hospice of Northeast Texas, 1306 Pine Tree Road, Longview, Texas 75604, the Humane Society of Gregg County, 303 Enterprise St., Longview, Texas 75604, or charity of choice. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the doctors, nurses and hospice workers that provided comfort and care.
