Barbara Baker

Barbara Ann Baker, “Nanny”, gained her heavenly wings and joined loved ones in heaven on December 5, 2022. She had suffered the last few years with dementia and is now free of this disease and is dancing and singing praises to her Lord and Savior. Barbara was born August 5, 1940 to George and Pauline Arnold in Arp, Texas. She attended Chapel Hill High School and went on to obtain an associate’s degree in paralegal from East Texas Baptist University. She lived most of her life in Longview, TX raising six children. After her children got older, Barbara worked for Gregg County in the tax office and retired in 1994. She was an avid bowler and was recognized in the Longview News Journal for bowling a perfect 300. She qualified for the National Bowling Tournament and was excited to compete against such talented bowlers. She also loved playing bingo, which she did later in life, and extended that love by working at the Longview Bingo Hall for several years. Barbara was a member of Rolling Hills Church for many years and loved her church. Her faith and love of family was a testimony to her love of Christ. She loved her family with her whole heart and never failed to end a conversation or visit with “I love you.” She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Steve Hackler, her son, Lonnie Curnutt, her brother, Billy Arnold; her granddaughter, Amy White and great-grandson Christopher Lackey. Survivors include her sisters Jane Ondrej and Patsy Painter; children, Lisa Vineyard and husband, Kenny; Marshall Jackson and wife, Kathy; Teresa Melton; and Artie Jackson and wife, Susan as well as 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great, great-grandchildren. We believe Mom would most like to be remembered first and foremost for her love of Christ, followed closely for her love of family. The family wishes to thank LifeCare Hospice for their outstanding care, and a very special thank you to Rhalston, Tracy and Sandra. We would also like to thank Trinity Timbers Assisted Living and Memory Care for their superb care. You became her family as well as our family and we will miss you. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM at Lakeview Memorial Gardens on Saturday, December 10, 2022. The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
