What an awesome man of God he was! I had the pleasure of knowing Pastor Mayes through Missionary Tech Team, and thoroughly enjoyed his knowledge of the Word and great personality.
He will be missed.

##imported-begin##Keith Olson##imported-end##Pastor John was a great encourager of young people. Dawn and
I were privileged to be married and counseled by him. He gave us some great
counsel in the early years of our ministry. He was a faithful servant and man
of God. So many of us who knew Pastor John during the days he served in
Whittier are so much richer in our Christian walk because of his faithful preaching and teaching. God bless each one of you in the family who have lost a father, grandfather and great -grandfather. May God's grace embrace you during this time.
Love you, Annie and Ken, and I hope you know you and your extended family are in my prayers as you walk through this difficult time of loss. It's bittersweet--sad for you but joyous for him. God bless and comfort you.

##imported-begin##Matthew Henry##imported-end##Pastor Mayes was an amazing man with an amazing legacy. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of the family, especially those I knew from Grace Christian School and Maranatha. Love and hugs to all of you. He is in a better place, now, with a new body and mind. Praise the Lord.
##imported-begin##Allyson Ward Bock##imported-end##Well I must say that Pastor Mayes was one of my pastor mentors. He did not know it but he was preparing me to preach. He taught me how to explain the text and not come up with cool ideas to communicate instead of the Scriptures. I remember going through several books of the Bible while I sat under his care and teaching. Kind, fun, godly, wise, and always loving. He had a Timothy in the ministry with me. I loved him for all that he did for us and our family and I learned how to minister through a very difficult circumstance... with grace and kindness, not viciousness. I have thanked the Lord many times for placing me under his tutelage and shepherding. And I long to sing and dance with him in heaven after many more years of applying his gifts and instructions in my ministry. Thank God for John Mayes.
