I am very saddened to hear of Max's passing and regret very much that I was not able to be there. As far back as my memories go, Max is a part of them. I especially remember the time that he lived with us and as a young child, I got to help him working on a Schlitz Beer truck. Many nights it was all I could do to keep my eyes open while he and my dad picked and sang. So many times I heard him play and sing Mansion Over the Hillside and now he is finally there. I am so sorry to hear of your father's passing. Max was a good man who brought humor to any situation. I got the pleasure to work with him in the telephone company days and while we were in Plano on contract. He was the life of every party. Your mother was a very sweet lady and I was honored to meet her in Henderson. I know he loved you deeply as well, he spoke highly of you. I remember your wedding when you sang your song to your parents.

To all of Max's survivors: Max was the life of the party, the best guitar picker who wasn't making his living picking. We always loved to see Max come to the reunion because we knew the music was going to be good. We had lots of fun together in our younger days with my brother, Randall, Max, Bud Hightower and then wife,Margaret, my sister, Janice. Hadn't seen him much in the latter years but will always think of him as "the life of the party". So sorry for your loss. I check the obituaries in the Conroe Courier frequently and this morning I saw where your dad passed away. I am so saddened because every year since your mom and dad left the Conroe area, I have called them on their birthdays. So of course the last time I talked to your dad was on his birthday in February of this year. I watched you grow up, went to your wedding and treasure your family's friendship all these years. I have already missed your mom greatly and will surely miss my yearly call to your dad.
