Jo Cain

Jo Cain was born in Corsicana, Texas on August 15, 1930. She grew up in Kerens, Texas as the oldest of five children whose father died when she was seven. She helped her mother with the other children as she grew. They were poor but proud. She worked in the local café at a very young age to help her mother with the family. She later went to work as a telephone operator in nearby Corsicana. She advanced to supervisor and moved to Dallas, where she continued that work. She met her husband Bob on a blind date, and they were married after he returned from his service with the U. S. Army in Korea. They raised three children and were happily married until Bob’s death November 11, 2013. Jo died on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 just shy of her 94th birthday in August. As a young married couple in Dallas and trying to start a family, they moved to Natchez, Mississippi where their first child, Cindy was born. They came back to Texas and settled in Longview where Jo had two more children, Andy and Clay. Jo and Bob both became very active in the First Baptist Church of Longview. Jo began working with children in the preschool department. She was eventually hired by the church as the early childhood Director and served in that position for a few years. Mostly, Jo worked in the home as a homemaker and helping Bob with his business. Jo was a fabulous sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She made you feel special, and she was genuinely interested in your life. She was a strong Christian and child of the Lord. She was never judgmental or vengeful. Although strong in her own beliefs, she was open to other views and beliefs. She was often accused by her family of having a red phone or hotline to God! She was wise and had a great sense of humor that few people got to see. She was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband Bob, her daughter, Cindy, and two brothers, Weldon and Glenn. She is survived by her sons: Andy and his wife, Lisa, Clay and his wife, Susan; Grandchildren: Andrew and his wife, Missy, Matthew and his wife, Olivia, Clayton and his wife, Mak, and Robert Cain; Great-grandchildren: Madalynn, Jillian, Pete, Burt, Maximus, and Jack; Brother, Nathan, and sister, Barbara. Services will be held at First Baptist Church, Longview in the Ford Chapel at 2 PM on Saturday with a funeral procession to the graveside afterward. If so moved, Jo would love the most that you spend time with your family and friends to cherish your days. If so desired, donations may be made to First Baptist Church, Longview or the American Cancer Society.
