Obituary

Harry Lee Allbright, Jr.

Harry Lee Allbright Jr, 82, passed away Thursday, December 13, 2012 after a brief illness. Harry was born October 20, 1930 to Harry Lee and Luella (Lansford) Allbright, the eldest of three active and mischievous boys. Harry graduated from Longview High School in 1947. He attended Kilgore Junior College then proudly served in the U. S. Navy as a RADAR operator.

Harry married Helen Gene Minchew in 2005 after the passing of Gwen Sanderlin, his wife with whom he raised 3 children: Harry Lee III, Anita Louise (Spradlin), and Laurie Ann (Gunn).

In 1955 Harry began a long career at Texas Eastman, retiring in 1991 but remaining active with his retiree buddies. His faith was strong and he wholeheartedly served the Methodist Churches wherever he lived. A recent addition to Harry & Gene's family, PupPup, an angel in dog form rescued by Harry, provided a strong bond and loving focus for the family.

Harry is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Gene; son, Harry Lee III; daughter, Laurie Gunn (husband Glenn); grandchildren, Carina Allbright-Hurley (husband James), Abby and Sam Gunn; great-grandchildren, Isaac and Ian Hurley; Gene's son, Michael Bert Minchew (wife Elizabeth and sons Will and Tom); plus numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Harry was preceded in death by his parents; wife Gwen; daughter Anita; and brothers, George and Philip Allbright.

Harry loved to spend time with his family and friends and had a servant's heart. He could build anything in his workshop and grow anything on a plot of land. He was an accomplished farmer, rancher, hunter, fisherman, carpenter, welder, builder, crafter, handyman, friend and father.

Special thanks to Harry's caregivers: Bennie Williams, Oletha Henry, Janie Darden and Carol Bolls. The family will celebrate Harry's life Sunday, December 16 from 2 to 4pm at Rader Funeral Home in Longview. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hallsville United Methodist Church.
